Editorial Breast cancer is not political – never has been and never will be. Unfortunately it crosses every gender, race, religion and political spectrum and takes no prisoners. I am a 15 year survivor coming from a family of multiple diagnosis. I have signed up, paid for and taken donations in my name for the 3-day 60 mile event in Dallas, Texas in November. If and until Susan G. Komen reverses their newly instituted grant policy regarding Planned Parenthood’s ability to provide women with basic health care choices including but not limited to breast cancer screenings, I will not be donating, raising funds, supporting or walking for SGK. Elegant Stitch, Inc. and I personally have donated thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours in support of SGK. I, in good conscience, can no longer do this. A non-profit organization whose mission is to eradicate breast cancer has no place on either side of the political fence. SGK’s ethical and moral responsibility is to straddle that fence until it hurts – no matter what the consequence, no matter the ramifications and no matter what the personal political agendas of the salaried executives who work at SGK. I am sickened, saddened and furiously angry
and I hope all of you who feel strongly about this will speak up.
You may read the pertinent information at this New York Times article:

And make your voices heard by
signing the petition at: http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/komen/?r_by=34337-1998958-U4YyU1x&rc=confemail Sad and disheartened as I am, I will find another avenue to support with my time and my dollars trying to find a cure. 60 miles – yes I can do that – tolerate this kind of injustice to women’s health care issues – hell no, I will not!!
