Care of your
silks and Pressing Information From Anne Frazier of Gloriana Threads:
Acid dyes (which give the best color on silk) cannot
take moist heat. Moist heat breaks the chemical bond and causes the color to bleed
and/or change. Using a steam iron on any silk thread which has been dyed with acid
dyes will cause the thread to lose it's color. The loss, I am sorry to say, is
permanent.
If your silks bleed onto your linen because of moist heat application, leave the piece in
cold water for five to seven days, wash it using a mild soap, and rinse until the water
runs clear. The point of this t\is to remove the color that has bled into the
fabric. Once the stains in the fabric are gone, thoroughly blot out the excess
moisture and iron dry using a DRY iron. Place the embroidery right side
down on a fluffy towel and iron on the back using a pressing cloth and a dry iron.
If the threads have lost their color due to application of steam, you will have to picked
out and restitched.
Remember that you are using a fine natural fiber and treat it gently and with care.
